How to be a Successful Blogger

Success is relative. What do you personally want to get out of blogging? Personally I just want to have fun with it. I like creating buzz. I like to play with ideas and then release them into the collective consciousness to see what they attract. Generally speaking, a successful blog is one that attracts many readers and has many subscribers. It gets attention from traditional media such as newspapers, magazines or is mentioned on television. Successful blog spots generate revenue with ads. Successful bloggers attain celebrity status. Successful bloggers get book deals.

Be cutting edge; Your thoughts have to attract alternative people. For your blog to blow up to humorously large proportions of popularity, your thoughts need to attract trendsetting kind of people. It's better to have one trendsetter vibing on your words than a hundred late adopters aka followers. By trendsetters I don't mean the "fashionista". I mean the"intelligentsia". Innovators set trends. A blog can become trendy and popular just like rock bands and blue jeans. Sure, there are too few trendsetting people for your blog to make any money from ad revenue but they are the one's who will sell you to the world at large and give you their stamp of "kewl".

A successful blog has to buzz. A successful blog has to have vibe. How do we create this "buzz". How can you become the very best blogger you can be? A blog with a buzz can become a media phenomena. The blog has to vibe to the writer, to vibe to the world. A successful blog has got to be engaging. It has to be fun. Part of the fun is getting lots of people talking . Blog entries end up being read by people all over the world. Can you imagine anything more ludicrous then getting famous from a free blog? Welcome to the future. May the information be with you. Amen.

You want your blog to go viral. The trendsetters will build on your ideas, improve on your ideas. They will criticize your ideas. they will spread the word. They will mention you while engaged in deep existential conversation at quirky coffeehouses. Trend followers will rush to your blog in order to be "in the know". The behavior spreads, until you are a house hold name.

Your blog must have an edge. It must be exciting. Make your blog dangerous. Make your blog deviant. Make it fun!. Have an artistic eye. Play with the design. Get some emotion out of it. Blogs are "pop culture". Dress for the event.

Be a publicity slut. Be ruthless. A blog that is stale and doesn't get you rich and famous is no fun at all. Make it happen. Be a media whore. You know you like it. Imagine elaborate publicity stunts to draw attention to your blog; try not to get arrested in the process but if you do, make sure to send out press releases with the arrest report and your url.

Create party events around your blog. Sure this may sound silly but people are always looking to have a good time. A blog is good a reason as any to have a few a drinks, meet new people and listen to music. There will be no lack of conversation at this party of course. Everybody will be talking about your last scandalous post. "She said that? No!". Approach venues and tell them you will promote the evening if they make out flyers. Make flyers with lewd or outrageous images. Be a narcissist and put your own picture on it, make sure to include your url.

Message is sculpted by the nature of the media. Blogs are structured by date of entry, which makes them time based media sort of. Various entries paint a picture over time. Create continuity from post to post. Make your blog an ongoing epic.

Let your mind be free. Don't limit subject matter. Don't censor yourself. Blog on a whim about anything. Disseminate information in an unstructured, unplanned style. Make entries about whatever is whimsically on your mind at the moment. Follow what ever is interesting to you at the time and you'll find you probably already have a niche.

The nature of the blogging medium is that it is mainly composed of a bunch of people, writing badly, about nothing in particular, in the hopes of finding an extra twelve dollars or so in their adsense at the end of the month. They are not successful because they're not natural born superstars. But you and I shine because we're fabulous!

Enough! I'm too sexy for this blog.

-peace out
